At the end of 20 th century,Mr.Xu Tongqiang first advocated the “zi-based” Theory.Almost at the same time,Jo?l Bellassen and Zhang Pengpeng's “A Key to Chinese Speech and Writing”(1989)was published in France.The book advocated the use of “zi-based” teaching method in teaching Chinese as a foreign language(TCFL).Although there are differences between the “zi-based” linguistic theory and the French “zi-based” teaching method,there basic principles are consistent.In terms of teaching Chinese characters and words for foreign students,the “zi-based” concept emphasizes the ideographic feature and strong words-formation ability of Chinese characters,which finds a new way besides the “word-based” concept in TCFL.Choosing the textbook “Road to Success: Lower Elementary(1,2)”,the author designs a “zi-based” teaching program for students of non-Chinese culture circle at primary stage,and puts into practice in this paper.The author hopes to enrich the cases of teaching Chinese characters and words under “zi-based” guidance,so as to provide more references for future researches.The first chapter is the analysis about the core standpoints of the “zi-based” concept and its applicability in TCFL.It points out that the “zi-based” concept highlights the uniqueness of Chinese characters,which shows respect for Chinese language itself and meets the needs of foreign students.In the second chapter,the implementation of “zi-based” teaching program is illustrated specifically.The first section is the overall design.Firstly,teaching principles are expounded.Secondly,an analysis of students and textbooks is made.And finally,the teaching contents for this design are established.The second section is an example of the whole process of classroom teaching from the “zi-based” perspective.In chapter three,the effectiveness of the “zi-based” teaching is discussed.It is hold that teaching Chinese characters and words from the “zi-based” perspective has advantages.It can help learners to master Chinese characters scientifically,to understand the relationship between Chinese characters and words reasonably and improve their guessing words ability,as well as to enable them to overcome the fear of learning Chinese characters.In addition,the author also points out the problems exposed in teaching and puts forward corresponding suggestions,in the hope of improving the teaching quality in the future.
