In the age of information, online news has been an irreplaceable way of information transmission featured with multifaceted texts,multi-channels and multimedia for spreading, and more interaction with readers. It gives readers a new perspective to read news all round. Therefore, there is an inevitable trend news on international websites needs to be trans-edited.This report analyzes several weird news cases, which are selected from Huanqiu.com,aiming to discuss problems existing in the process of E-C trans-editing of English weird news and to test the practicability of Text Typology Theory in the trans-editing practice. The trans-editor finds there exist problems such as semantic repetition both words and sentences,a clumsy text in style and lacking of logic and coherence in source texts. The trans-editor adopts Text Typology Theory proposed by the British translation theorist and educator Peter Newmark. The trans-editing method of communicative translation and translation techniques such as omission, addition, recreation, reconstructing and conversion under the theory are used to achieve desired communicative effect and pragmatic function with readers. With difficulties caused by differences between English and Chinese, the trans-editor manages to refine the news titles and news lead first and then reconstructs the news content to make the target texts interesting and readable. Thus the target texts, which match ways of Chinese expressions, are concise and coherent. The trans-editor hopes the research findings in this report can provide some proposals for trans-editors in the course of weird news trans-editing and can promote the application of the Text Typology Theory in news trans-editing practice.
