Research On The Chinese Government Press Conference Interpreting Strategies Under The Guidance Of The Skopos Theory

With the development of economy and the deepening of reform and opening up, connections between China and the rest of world in politics, economy, culture and other aspects have been much closer. The Chinese government press conference held every March becomes an important window for other countries in the world to learn about China. Chinese government press conference is mainly interpreted from Chinese into English. Studies on press conference have been played much emphasis on by scholars in this field. Based on the press conference interpretation in 2015, this paper aims at making a research on the interpreting strategies during the process of press conference interpreting in the framework of the Skopos Theory, especially the three rules of the Skopos Theory. The purposes and reasons will be analyzed. Skopos is regarded as the most important factor during the process of translation. There are three rules including skopos rule, coherence rule, fidelity rule in this theory. The research methods include literature analysis, observation, analysis and case study. The research findings demonstrate that:strategy under the guidance of the skopos rule is mainly literal translation; Strategies under the guidance of the coherence rule include addition, omission, transfer, blending, combination and division. The strategy under the guidance of the fidelity rule is usually liberal translation. The significance of the research mainly lies in two aspects. Firstly, the results of the research will bring implications to interpreters in their interpretation practice. Secondly, it could provide reference for interpretation teaching and interpretation training, enrich interpretation strategies and improve efficiency and quality of interpretation.
