A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Documentary Following The Footsteps Of Zhou Enlai

This is a report of Chinese to English translation of the documentary entitled Following the Footsteps of Zhou Enlai.The translation is commissioned by Beijing Moze Culture Co.,Ltd.The interview text is expected to be translated from Chinese to English within three months by a team of eight people.The author is responsible for about 10,000 words of translation.The original text belongs to the interview text.There are abundant dialogues in it,hence it boasts obvious colloquial features.The translated video will be shown in the United Nations.This report is divided into five parts: The first part introduces the background of the task,the significance of the project and the requirements of the client.The second part presents the theoretical basis of the translation and analyzes the text from lexical,syntactic and stylistic aspects.The third part illustrates translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post translation and revision.The fourth part summarizes the specific solutions targeting at different lexical,syntactic and stylistic features.The final chapter concludes the author's experience gained from translation.On the basis of the text type theory and in view of the problems in the translation process,the author proposes the following solutions combined with specific cases.Colloquial vocabularies are translated by explanation and vague words are translated freely.Simple and non-subject sentences are respectively translated by amplification,using of there be pattern and complement.Taken the colloquial style and loose logic into consideration,the author uses literal translation to clear the logic.The author tries to keep original content and language style and timely records important and difficult points in the translation,aiming to provide convenience for the following summary.The author also seeks to offer a reference of translation methods to other translators when translating similar texts in the future.The author hopes that this report can solve some problems and difficulties in the translation of interview texts and provide effective translation methods.
