Western sinological works play an important role to expand cultural exchanges between the east and the west. The original text of this report comes from the eighth chapter of the overseas sinological academic proceedings Literary Forms of Argument in Early China, which studies the literary forms of argument within Waiwu of Zhuangzi. This paper mainly studies the process of this E-C translation and uses methods such as case analysis and deductive research to analyze textual characteristics and academic value of the original text from the aspect of words, sentences and texts so as to explore appropriate translation ideas and methods of overseas sinological academic texts. In terms of writing style, the source text has characteristics of both academic text and literary criticism of Zhuangzi.A dynamic balance between its scholarship and readability is to be achieved by paraphrasing properly. For its terminologies, the translator defines their related subject by seeking professional books, and contextualizes them in a flexible way to ensure their accuracy. On phrases and textual levels, the meaning of sentences is reorganized by using translation skills like division,order-changing,deletions and enhancing textual cohesion to realize textual coherence. In cultural level, back translation method is used to translate Chinese culture within the text based on Chinese classics;domestication and paraphrasing strategies are used to make the version close to the cultural background of readers;compensation is used to supplement the neglected cultural information or context of source text. Finally,a conclusion can be made that paraphrasing and back translation are important strategies in overseas sinological text translation, and compensation is an effective way to improve the quality of translation.
