A Report On A Business Interpreting-Based On The Interpreter'S Experience As An Information Gatekeeper

As China's opening up to the outside world is growing,many foreign businessmen have come to China to engage in various activities.More importantly,much attention has been given to the role played by interpreters during the interpreting process.The author,based on the her interpreting experience from June 6,2019 to June 9,acted as a business interpreter for a clothing exporter and a foreign businessman.In this report,the author,guided by the gategeeper theory,analyzes the interpreting practice from the perspective of information gatekeeping.This report has four parts,which are task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The first part gives a detailed description of the interpretation task,including the task introduction,interpreter profile,client requirements,and the characteristics and nature of this interpreting practice.The second part is the process description,including pre-interpreting preparation,interpreting process and feedback obtained after the task.In the third part,the author briefly introduces the gatekeeper theory put forward by Kurt Luin.Based on the theory,the author analyzes her own performance.In order to make the communication process go smoothly,the interpreter mainly checks the complaints,impolite information,irrelevant and redundant information.The final part is a summary of this interpreting performance and this report,including the author's reflections on this interpreting practice,implications for others to write similar reports,limitations in finishing the interpreting task and corresponding suggestions according to limitations.Through this interpreting practice,the author fully realizes that in business interpreting practice,interpreters should consciously check some information that will cause communication failure or communication process to be blocked according to specific circumstances,and take reasonable strategies to solve the problems on interpreting site with the purpose of better completing the interpreting task.
