Skopos theory advocates breaking away from the bondage of the original texts and taking translation purposes as the criteria to provide readers with a new perspective. That is,the translation purpose determines the translation methods. The three principles of skopos theory are the skopos rule, the fidelity rule and the coherence rule. The purpose of the informative texts is to convey the real content to readers and achieve some communicative purposes. The linguistic features of the informative texts are accuracy, faithfulness and objectivity.Based on translating the first two chapters of Handbook of Promoting Social Justice in Education and the three rules of skopos theory, this report offers an analysis of the translation strategies and methods during this translation process at the lexical level, syntactic level and textual level with the informative text characteristics taken into account. The translation methods used at lexical level include literal translation, free translation, semantic extension, concreteness of abstract nouns, conversion of parts of speech, and translation of terminology. The methods at the syntactic level are linear translation, addition, translation of passive voice, and division. The methods at the textual level concern those of translating personal reference and demonstrative reference, substitution and synthetic method. Finally, the findings and shortcomings of this translation practice are summarized, and the author hopes that this report will be of some value to the translation practice of the informative texts.
