China's foreign exchanges at present have been becoming increasingly frequent in the trend of economic globalization, and the amount of its overseas geotechnical engineering projects also have been increasing each year. There is still a shortage of such translation talents despite an increasing number of translations of English textbooks, academic materials, newspapers, magazines, and contract bids for civil engineering in recent years. As the most highly professional field of science and technology, geotechnical engineering plays a significant role. Therefore, translation studies in this field are of vital importance to China's development and need more attention and in-depth research. The translation of geotechnical engineering investigation texts belongs to scientific translation, which has its own stylistic features.Scientific and technological texts are information-based texts, the main purpose of which is to convey professional knowledge and information in an objective, accurate and concise way. Therefore,a complete geotechnical investigation report is selected as the source text to carry out the C-E translation practice under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.Chapter Four, the main part of the report, which focuses on the cases encountered in C-E translation practice and their solutions, including the translation of professional and technical words, the conversion of active voices to passive voices, the treatment of non-subjective sentences and logical cohesion.Functional equivalence at levels of vocabulary, syntax, and discourse is achieved through literal translation, free translation,part-of-speech conversion, voice conversion, and addition of logical conjunctions, aiming to make the target readers' understanding of the translated version consistent as much as with the source readers' understanding of the original text.It is hoped that this research can provide reference and guidance for researchers of related fieldsThe study shows that translators should understand the source language fully and convey its information naturally and faithfully during the translation process in order to meet the target readers' response, that to achieve the lexical equivalence, many technical terms in the source text are translated literally and plentiful verbs need to be converted into prepositions, nouns, adjectives, etc.,that to achieve the syntactic equivalence, the most significant change is that more than one-third of the sentences in the text are translated into passive voice to describe objective facts and compound sentences are converted into complex sentences to meet the requirements of the target language readers, and that to achieve the textual equivalence, the addition of logical conjunctions and demonstrative pronouns as well as restructuring of the sentence information is required due to the preciseness and logic of scientific text.
