The Development Report of Northwest China(2019)is a comprehensive annual report written by experts from the Academy of Social Sciences of five provinces of Northwest China to reflect the regional reform and development.It is of great significance to conduct a scientific study on the overall plan for promoting economic,political,cultural,social and ecological progress.This translation report takes the chapter of Report on Economic Development over the 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up in Northwest China as the translation task,which aims to provide the relevant practitioners at home and abroad with the effective information of the economic development in Northwest China,thus winning more opportunities for the economic development in the said area.This report firstly carries out an in-depth analysis of the source text from lexical,syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of Reiss' Text Typology Theory.It can be found that the official economic report is characteristic of informative text and some corresponding translation methods are available in the process.With regard to lexical level,economic terms and expressions with Chinese characteristics need be unified by searching for some authoritative corpus and other official documents to ensure their accuracy and objectivity.For the translation of category words that are often used in Chinese texts,addition and omission can be adopted flexibly.In terms of sentence translation,the subject can be added to the non-subject sentences according to the context;when it comes to parallel sentences,they are translated into English sentences with clear logic through syntactical readjustment and information simplification.For those long sentences,translators can adopt methods of splitting and restructuring.In addition,the author of the translation report also referred to parallel texts such as the China Statistical Yearbook in order to fully translate a large number of data and specific figures to realize the equivalence between the source text and the target text.It is suggested in this report that the translation quality should be optimized with the help of some authoritative parallel texts and official corpus,especially the translation of officialand economic reports or documents.Besides,to translate sentences with distinct Chinese characteristics,it is necessary to analyze their logic first,and then achieve the effective transmission of the original information.
