With the continuous advancement of reform and opening up and the persistent deepening of the impact of economic globalization, more and more Chinese companies choose to go abroad for international trade in order to gain a foothold in the wave of globalization. In this context, contract translation has become a bridge for communication and cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies. The Distributor Agreement is an agreement with regard to the sale of components between a company in the United Kingdom and a company in Hong Kong,China. It stipulates a series of responsibilities and obligations both parties should shoulder such as the distributor's responsibilities, orders, pricing, payment methods, warranty, and compensation.Guided by Newmark's text typology theory, this translation practice report is written based on the Distributor Agreement.Newmark divides texts into three main categories: the expressive text, the informative text, and the vocative text. The Distributor Agreement not only conveys the conditions of the parties to the contract, but also calls on other parties to sign the contract in order to reach a cooperative relationship between two or more parties. Therefore, this agreement is an expressive text and a vocative text, mainly an expressive one.Under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory, the author analyses the characteristics of business contracts in terms of lexis, syntax and text, and proposes corresponding translation methods and techniques. At the lexical level, the addition, the word-for-word equivalence, and the conversion of parts of speech are adopted;at the syntactic level, the division, the restructuring, and voice conversion are used to deal with the translation of long and complex sentences, and passive voice sentences;at the textual level, the word-for-word translation and logical reshuffling focus on the cohesion and coherence. This translation practice report aims to summarize the difficulties encountered by the author in the translation process, and propose corresponding translation methods and techniques to solve these translation difficulties,so as to provide some reference for those who are committed to the translation of business contract texts.
