Research On Chinese Vocabulary Learning Through Pleco

Pleco is one of the earliest App aids for Chinese language learning,which is quite popular at present.This paper investigates the contents of its dictionary and flash card in order to find out the problems and put forward suggestions for improvement.The survey found that Pleco has a large number of users,users think it is very convenient to use it to retrieve terms,and some users have higher requirements for pleco.In order to study the advantages and disadvantages of pleco,this paper discusses the definition,example sentences and flash cards of Chinese dictionaries that are made for foreigner in combination with the existing research and excellent language learning APPs.Pleco includes many dictionaries with flexible flash card functions,but there are inaccuracies in the interpretation of the PLC dictionary(the Chinese-English dictionary developed by Pleco company).And there are omissions in the annotation,and the demonstration of parts of speech of some Chinese words,lacking the explanation of the emotional tendency of words;in the aspect of pronunciation,some pronunciation demonstrations are rigid and not good.In the flash card part,the form is subjective,the purpose and standard of the test are not clear,and the feedback form is rough,which is not conducive to helping learners to findout the omissions and fill in the gaps.In terms of content,there is a need for a classified lexicon to serve learners of different majors.In terms of the definition and example sentences of PLC dictionary,it should be different from the traditional dictionary interpretation,embodying the principles of bilingual,concise,multi-dimensional and decomposition.Because pleco’s user purpose is not only to "understand" Chinese vocabulary,but also to "master" Chinese vocabulary,its interpretation language should be inclined to teaching,demonstration,rather than interpretation,and should fully refer to the theoretical guidance of Chinese vocabulary teaching.In addition to text interpretation,multimedia interpretation should also be introduced.In flash card,it needs reasonable form,concise content,feedback in place,clear positioning,to meet the user’s test and learning needs,and easy to operate.In view of the above problems,this paper provides some suggestions and solutions for pleco.
