Redundancy,as an inherent property of any language,is an unavoidable topic in the study of interpretation.Inappropriate redundancies in consecutive interpretation will result in the lack of patience among audiences, since they are unable to accurately understand the focus of the information, making the interpreter untrustworthy. This thesis intends to analyze the case of Ian Newton's speech on refugee camp under coronavirus outbreak on the mock conference held in April 2020,and discusses the causes and solutions of inappropriate phonetic, semantic and syntactic redundancies in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting.First of all,the writer will review the relevant research literature to offer a definition and classification for redundancy.Secondly, the writer will examine the causes of redundancies of some individual examples in the case with pictures of interpreting notes.Lastly, specific strategies will be put forward to eliminate inappropriate redundancies in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting through improving note-taking skills and ways of expression. It is hoped that through in-depth analysis of the problems in the writer's own interpreting practice, some improvements may be seen in the writer's future practices, and that this paper can provide some reference for beginners who are troubled by the same problem.
