Reformulation is one of the most important techniques of interpreting, which means readjusting the wording of the original so as to convey the speaker's meaning as faithfully as possible.Scholars at home and abroad have discussed much about this strategy against the background of simultaneous interpretation. This thesis focuses on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting(CI),provides specific solutions to reformulation, and suggests how Chinese interpreters can overcome specific challenges in this process as well as take advantages of CI.Based on previous studies, the author starts with the definition and classification of reformulation and introduces its significance in Chinese-English CI,which encompasses both advantages and challenges. The thesis is based on a case study on the mock conference of Will 2020 witness a medium-speed growth, for which the author interpreted. The author analyzes both successful examples of reformulating and problems caused by inefficient practices.Efficient practices include simplification, omission, structural adjustment and addition. Then the author concludes three types of failure to reformulate: redundancy, disordered structures and logical confusion.Given the reasons, the thesis provides three solutions: compressing information, categorizing information and making logic explicit. In summary, the author concludes with two techniques that interpreters can adopt to better apply the tactic of reformulation:(a)allocating more effort to listening and analyzing;(b)making the best of the time lag in CI.
