Due to the various differences between the two languages of Chinese and English,word-to-word literal interpreting from Chinese to English would always result in confusion and ambiguity, and the quality of the interpreting would also be compromised. To clearly, efficiently and unambiguously convey a Chinese speaker's logic, core ideas and intentions, explicitation is much needed. The application of explicitation is significant in delivering high quality Chinese to English interpreting. The author carried out a case analysis of the application of explicitation, and categorized existing problems from three aspects: explicitation of logic, core ideas and the speaker's intention. The thesis concludes with three specific strategies and three overall suggestions. |
