Machine Translation Limitations And Post-editing Solutions

With the development of computer technology,machine translation has been widely applied in translation activicities,which helps ease the burden of translation and improve efficiency and consistency.However,limited to the automatic process of machine translation system,machine translation sometimes produces target texts with a quality far below that of professional translators and the standard required by clients.In this regard,post-editing is an indispensable part of machine-aided translation projects,which ensures a balance between translation efficiency and quality.This thesis discusses the application of the machine translation and post-editing model in the Global City project,a Chinese-English translation project.This thesis summarizes the main limitations of machine translation in this project from two perspectives: lexis and syntax.On the lexical level,the errors made by machine include the redundancy and mistakes in singular and plural;on the syntax level,the errors include the inaccurate subject,unclear logic and wrong tense in some sentences.Accordingly,the author puts forward corresponding solutions to the aforementioned limitations.Through analyzing the limitations of machine translation and providing post-editing solutions,this thesis aims to provide practical post-editing solutions for translation in similar projects and make some clues for the future studies of machine translation and post-editing model.
