Strategies Of Translating Medical Terms In Medical Papers

With the development of opening up,communication between China and the rest of the world in the field of medicine becomes more frequent than ever before.Modern medicine is introduced from western countries,and many English terms with similar meanings often share one translation name in Chinese.That brings difficulties to the translation of medical terms.Moreover,some Chinese terms are often mistranslated due to the difficulty of learning about medical knowledge,thus affecting the communication between China and foreign countries,even clinical research.This thesis analyzes the challenges in translating Chinese medical terms and proposes a number of feasible solutions.It first presents a SCI medical paper which the author of this thesis translated on his own,then summarizes two difficulties in the initial version of the translation,i.e.semantic errors and disunity standards of the medical terms,and further proposes two corresponding solutions that the author adopted to reduce mistranslation of medical terms: concept analysis based on multi-party verification and unified standards of medical terms.Through evidence-based analysis,this thesis aims to introduce some inspiration and effective research methods,to help translators who lack experience in medical translation,so as to reduce the mistranslation of Chinese medical terms and improve the standardization and professionalism of the translation.
