Challenges And Localization Strategies Of Game Translation

The development of video games has a history of more than 40 years.However,in the context of unique translation texts and the contempt received by the game industry,the relevant systematic research results are far from enough.Through the study of a large RPG game,this paper discusses the common difficulties and game translation strategies in this game localization project.Under the circumstances of insufficient project time,large number of professional terms and difficulty in integrating cultural elements,we can complete highquality translation of game texts through the analysis of original texts,the application of conventional free translation or transcreation methods,and the domestication of special cultural elements.Through the discussion of this paper,the author believes that game translation strategies should focus on the combination of term translation,free translation and transcreation;euphemism and rhetorical devices are adopted to avoid excessive cultural differences;applying naturalization strategy and integrating into the culture of target language.The text of this paper is divided into three chapters.Chapter one introduces the general situation of this game localization project.The second chapter introduces the problems and challenges of this project in game translation.The third chapter introduces the author's translation strategies and ideas for different texts.At present,China's game localization industry is facing many difficulties,and there are few studies in the academic field,so it is difficult to make a breakthrough.Therefore,the author hopes to attract more professional translators to pay attention to the game translation field through this article,provide academic guidance for the development of the game industry,and better promote the development of China's game localization industry.
