Mystery novel is gaining popularity around the world as a part of popular literature,with plots and elaborate methods of criminal.Historical Mystery is set against the backdrop of the history,which gives readers the mysterious charm,while at the same time making the history come alive.Of course,the translation of such a Historical Mystery that fuses history brings new challenges to translators.The original Chinese version of The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code series,a historical mystery based on the Northern Song Dynasty famous painting Qingming Shanghe Tu.The author,Ye Wenbiao,named the 824 people who is drown in the Qingming Shanghe Tu and made them play the role of characters.Through the appearance of the 824 people,the politics,economy,culture,arts,literature,military,food,clothing,shelter,and means of traveling of the Northern Song Dynasty are carefully described.The title The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code,which includes Chinese classical cultural element,is concise and informative.In addition,the novel is based on the Northern Song Dynasty,culture-loaded expressions come out one after another.Furthermore,The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code is a mystery novel,the plots progress smoothly because the hints were laid out from the beginning.How to translate the title? How to deal with the Chinese culture elements of culture-loaded expressions? How to accurately translate plotted hints? These are the issues that the Japanese translation practice of The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code gives.This paper is based on the translation of The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code,carried out under the theory of Gutt's Translation and Relevance Theory.Translation and Relevance Theory confirms that human cognition seeks to get maximum cognitive effects with less cognitive effort.Translation is regarded as general communication act.Translator should make sure that the target reader get cognitive effects similar with the source reader's with less cognitive effort.This paper try to elaborate on how to get translators' subjectivity manifested with a lot of cases come from the translation project.The translator brings her subjectivity into complete paly while working on the Japanese translation of The Qingming Shanghe Tu Code.While dealing with the title,the translator try to use a completely new form to explain the meaning behind the Chinese title.While dealing with the culture-loaded expressions,translator try to use a lot of translation methods like domestication,deletion,addition to make the cognitive gap between different cultures come narrow.While dealing with the hints,translator try to add the right interpretations,so as to let readers achieved maximum cognitive effects,and recreate a mysterious atmosphere.According to the Translation and Relevance Theory to use translators' subjectivity,translators can improve the quality of the translation of historical mystery,and the reader can obtain the maximum cognitive effect with the minimum processing effort.
