Building new socialist villages where man and nature can live in harmony is an important step leading to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Today,the planning and construction of rural areas have been given increasing importance by governments at all levels.As the reform and opening-up is gaining momentum,building beautiful villages requires not only the wisdom of China,but also the advanced development concepts of other countries.Therefore,the transmission of planning specifications of rural areas will not only help the world better understand China,but also facilitate mutual exchange and communication.Translation plays an important role in the process of professional learning and cultural exchange.Planning Specifications for the Provincial Project of the Conservationand Development of Sunlong Village is a document guiding the implementation of the planning arrangements of Sunlong Village.It gives systematic analysis of and suggestions for Sunlong Village concerning such aspects as its natural resources and industrial development.It is a type of informative text.At the request of Linyi Planning,Construction and Design Institute,the author of this report was engaged in translating into English the planning specifications for Sunlong Village from May to July in 2019.This report takes as the data Chapters 1,2,3,5 and 6 of the planning document,and analyzes translation difficulties and their causes.In this way,the author hopes to figure out some solutions and strategies when translating texts of the similar type into English.Translation difficulties range from the translation of terminologies and four-character constructions,to the translation of run-on sentences and long complex sentences.Such difficulties are mainly due to the author's lack of professional knowledge concerning the fields of urban and rural planning,and insufficient understanding of the differences between English and Chinese.Provided that the translation aims at helping foreign readers understand planning ideas,the author takes the Skopos Theory as guidance to analyze key and difficult translation problems.Translation strategies like making a term list,free translation,domestication,adding connectives,splitting and reorganizing sentence structures are put forward by case analysis,hoping to provide insights and implications for the translation of similar informative texts and promote the communication of planning ideas and principles.
