As a form of literary work,a biography systematically describes the life of a typical character, which is of great significance to the study of history and the change of times.By reading biographies, readers can not only grasp the essential features of the characters, but also broaden their horizons.Boy Plunger,a biography composed by Tom Rubython, expounds the ups and downs of the investment career of Jesse Livermore as a stock trader. In order to reproduce the protagonist's legendary stories and provide references and inspirations for domestic investors, the translator sets out to translate part of this book.Excerpted from Boy Plunger,Chapter Thirteen and Chapter Fourteen are selected as the translation material for this report, the content of which is quite representative. This part of the source text is precise and explicit in structure, concise and vivid in language, and contains a lot of appositives.According to the syntactic structure, appositives can be classified into three types: “head+head” appositives,“head+complement” appositives and “head+modifier”appositives.Appositive is a common phenomenon in English, the translation of which should not be ignored. Therefore, this report mainly discusses the translation strategies for appositives in biography under the guidance of Skopos Theory and intends to provide reference for the translation of appositives in texts of similar genres. This report is composed of six chapters.Chapter One gives an introduction to the research background, significance and purpose of the research as well as layout of the thesis.Chapter Two is the task description, which illustrates the theme and language style of the source text and corresponding translation requirements.Chapter Three describes the procedures of translation, namely, preparations before translation, translation process and proofreading after translation.Chapter Four is the theoretical framework, which states the relevant concepts of Skopos Theory and appositives.Chapter Five is the case study,in which translation strategies for “head+head” appositives(synchronizing, fronting, bracketing and amplification),“head+complement” appositives(omission, division and adjusting)and“head+modifier” appositives(conversion and integrating)are discussed with specific examples.Chapter Six is a conclusion of the whole report, pointing out the findings and limitations of this translation practice.
