Food culture is a part of national culture.The name of dishes is to name dishes with different characteristics according to certain principles.The name of dishes is not only a simple communication system of language symbols,but also contains deep information.And these are condensed in language.Naming dishes is a way of language expression and a language art.From the perspective of phonetics,vocabulary,grammar and rhetoric,this paper analyses the naming of Chinese and Thai dishes.In phonetics,Chinese syllables are relatively short,easy to recognize,read and remember,which can give people a sense of beauty.It was found that four-character characters are commonly used to name dishes in Chinese.The number of Thai syllables is more arbitrary.In terms of vocabulary,it is found that Chinese and Thai cuisine names are good at using cognitive expression and information.The difference is that in word formation,the central language of Chinese dish names is placed behind the dish names,while Thai dishes are placed in front.In terms of grammar,it is found that the most common naming of Chinese dishes is partial structure.The name of Thai dishes is subjectpredicate structure at most.In terms of rhetoric,Chinese and Thai are often good at turning emptiness into reality when naming dishes,and seeking exquisite dish names.At the same time,it strives to reflect the cultural color.This paper makes a comparative study on the naming of dishes in Chinese and Thai languages.By studying the deeper connotation behind the names of the two languages,we can see the similarities and differences in the dietary culture between the two countries,hoping to help the comparative study of Chinese and Thai languages.
