After World War II,the United States not only stabilized its central position economically, but also established a U.S.-centered military alliance system worldwide. The Philippines is the typical representative of Southeast Asia and during the Marcos period, experienced an important turning point in the U.S.-Philippines alliance, which cannot be ignored. Therefore, taking Philippines – United States alliance during the Marcos Era as the main component, combing the Philippines Alliance's evolution, this article demonstrates the gains and losses of the United States and the Philippines, respectively, from the perspective of benefits and costs. In this paper,we find out the pressure that the United States faces in this alliance through the analysis of the cables, the presidential memorandum and the documents of the United States government. It shows that neither the powerful United States nor the weak Philippines can get something without giving something, providing more basis for further analysis of the US policy in East Asia.Studying the alliance relationship between the United States and the Philippines from the perspective of benefits and costs, helps in better analyzing the impact of Philippine-American coalition on other neighboring countries, and to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the Philippines – United States relations. Moreover, the real situation of the Philippines in the alliance can also be regarded as an important reference for predicting the future the Philippine policy and attitude toward China.
