Community Care Patterns Of Urban Elders In Hong Kong

In recent years,with the aggravating trend of aging population in China,nursing and caring of the elderly has become a focus of the whole society.Hong Kong,a modern city with fast economic growth,has encountered aging problem earlier in1970 s,and it is estimated that the problem will exaggerate in the future.In the Service of the Elderly drew up by Hong Kong Government Secretariat in 1997,community care was brought up,and had won recognition for its business model.As a model between family care for the elderly and institutional care,it relieves pressure for family members,and avoid shortcomings of institutional care,and it has gained popularity in China.In this dissertation,we have selected a District Elderly Community Center at Sham Shui Po as our subject of investigation.By conducting research on its subdivisions including,“household services”,“psychological services”,“education development ” and “ community care and services of the elderly ”,we try to understand the organization structure,sources of funding,scope of work and service mode of community care.Our research methods include: literature review,participatory observation,interview,and case studies.We have come to a conclusion that Hong Kong has established a comprehensive community care system,and have effectively integrated home care,community care and institutional care to provide continuous service for the elderly;Professional social workers’ teams are supporting the care system,and it is high time that should care for the training of the professionals.Government grants,donations and services fees is to make sure that the social worker training is financially guaranteed,and multiple sources of funding is constantly improving training process and thus improve the ability of professional personnel.We also advocate to engage more senior volunteers,while their continuous engagement in social affairs they can also provide services to other people.Hong Kong Community Care system has also inspired community care in mainland China.We will continue to improve the care system for the elderly – make sure that residential care are the basics.We will also encourage senior volunteers to actively engage in the community and be continuously involved in social affairs and to serve other elders in need so as to promote the sense of worthiness.Meanwhile,we will engage people in community care,and engage more support workers in long-term residential and community care,and establish social support network for the elderly.Thus establish,hospital-community-household,a comprehensive caring mode and provide a thorough and comprehensive caring system for the elderly around medical care and nursing care.
