Myanmar, is one of the longest military power in the world.In January1948, Myanmar gained independence from the British Common wealth, and adopted the Multi-party parliamentary system.Since General Ne Win came to power in March1962, Myanmar has been operating under military rule. In May1990, Myanmar’s general election was dominated by the military government, and Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) eventually won, but the military government to refuse to hand over the power. Since then,both conflicts have been intensified.Aung San Suu Kyi was in prison, the NLD headquarters was closed,and mass bloody conflict occurred from time to time. In2010November, Myanmar held another general election, the military retreated behind the scenes,finally,the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (Gong Development Party) won. In March2011,Myanmar established the first democratically elected government over the past50years,and the new government is pursuing comprehensive reform of political democracy, national reconciliation and economic liberalization policies.After more than a year,tremendous and profound changes have taken place in the social status of Myanmar,which is exclaimed "completely beyond all expectations" by the Western press.On the basis of the analysis of the process of democratic reform in Myanmar,this article will summarize the reasons for this reform, its characteristics and facing domestic and international challenges,in order to prospect the future development trend of the bilateral relations between China and Myanmar.
