Mao Zedong's Democratic Thoughts Surpassing Populism

Many people have confused Mao Zedong' s democratic thoughts with populism in order to achieve the purpose of "non-Maohua ".However,in fact,Mao Zedong ' s democratic thoughts are not only different from populism but also have achieved the transcendence of populism.Populism is a complex trend of thought and has different meanings in different contexts.In the context of Western culture,populism is understood as an extreme democratic thought and an irrational civilian political movement;in the Marxist context,populism is a non-Marxist social revolutionary theory,and it' s original form is the Russian populism' in the context of Chinese culture,the“Great Harmony”ideology in the context of traditional Chinese culture and the violent peasant movement were concerned as populism.In modern Chinese culture,especially in the context of Marxism Chinese,populism is used to refer to leaping ideology that have not transitioned to socialism without capitalism.Under the premise of clarifying populism in three different contexts,it is not difficult to find that in the context of Marxism,Mao Zedong' s democratic thoughts and populism are fundamentally heterogeneous.This is reflected in its thinking beyond the theoretical basis,substantive content,and practical results of populism.From a theoretical perspective,Mao Zedong's democratic thoughts achieved a transcendent premise for populism's historical outlook and methodology;in terms of substance,the revolutionary subject theory,peasant revolutionary theory,and new democratic theory in Mao Zedong's democratic thoughts achieved populism.From the result of practice,the new democratic revolution won under the guidance of Mao Zedong's democratic thoughts and achieved a transcendence over populism.Exploring the transcendence of populism by Mao Zedong's democratic thought has important theoretical and practical significance.On one hand,it will help us form a correct assessment of Mao Zedong's thought and status;on the other hand,it will help our country correctly understand and handle the similar populism problems that have arisen in the process of the current construction of democratic politics,and continue to give play to the guiding role of Mao Zedong ' s democratic thoughts,and to improve China's democratic political construction.
