China 's Network Populism - Morphology, Roots And Dispelling

Since the inception of the new century, the combination of populism and the rapid development of internet technology result in the internet-savvy populism. China is in transition, which lead to a series of social problems arise, such as official corruption, the consolidation of social hierarchical system, inequality of opportunity and the widening income gap. During this period, populist has positive effect on China in some degree, but the negative influence or damage is more. Therefore, this paper is mainly to find out a feasible countermeasure to deal with the negative influence of internet populism by systematic study. As a social-political phenomenon, it is difficult to find out an exact and authoritative concept for Populism, but it is certain that "worship of the people" and "position of lower-class people "are populist core values. As a contemporary derivative of traditional populist, Internet populist is full of virtual reality, direct participation and group polarization, besides traditional populism’s grass-roots nature, non-rationality and criticalness withthe specialty of cyberspace. As a big power of super-ideology, Internet populism follow the political logic of "judge by the people", which is bribed by radical leftists, far right and extreme nationalism, presenting radical trend of three kinds of populism.The origin of populism is not single, which is the result of traditional thought, internet technology, certain social environment and group psychology together. As a product of modernization, internet populism has two-sided effect on China which is in transition. On the one hand, it makes policy tend to fairness and justice, and cultivates the citizen’s public spirit; on the other hand, it causes negative influence such as destruction of existing democratic order and authority of the rule of law, intensification ofdifferent social strata’s contradictions and weakening of political identification. To eliminate the negative effects of internet populism, at the end of this article, the author puts forward some feasible countermeasures to curb the rapid spread momentum of Internet populism, which are improvement of people’s livelihood, safeguard of civil rights, reinforce of internet censorship, development of social organizations, improvement of modern citizenship education.
