A Case Study Of The Impact Of Bricolage On Public Welfare Organization's Business Model Change

With the rapid development of society,non-profit organizations are no longer confined to traditional non-profit forms.They have begun to try to achieve sustainable development through commercial entrepreneurship.As a tool to describe the development logic within an organization,business model can be used to describe this process of change.For groups of non-profit organizations represented by public welfare organizations in university,this process is often faced with severe resource difficulties.It's hard to change.Research shows that the bricolage of resources is an effective way for entrepreneurs to break resource bottlenecks,cope with challenges,and create opportunities.In practice,when start-ups lack resources,they often use existing limited resources to complete the corresponding changes in business models.The predicament faced by public organizations and startups is similar.Already,non-profit organizations have successfully implemented the change of business model through bricolage of resources.The study of this process has theoretical and practical significance.In order to discuss this topic,this paper first reviewed the bricolage theory,the business model theory,and the theory of public welfare organizations,theoretically analyzing how bricolage impacts the business model of the public welfare organization and building a theoretical model.Then,this paper selected two cases through the method of case study,took the change process of its business model as main research object.Case data collection,collation and analysis were conducted through multiple channels.The last step was to use grounded theory method to code the case's resource bricolage and business model change process.We systematically studied the impact of bricolage on the internal factors and overall changes of the business model of the public welfare organizations,and obtained the enlightenment of how nonprofit organizations faced with severe resource difficulties and urgent transition needs to promote business model changes through bricolage of resources.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: 1.The bricolage of resources can promote the change of the business model of the non-profit organization;2.The bricolage of resources to promote changes in the business model of nonprofit organizations is reflected in the changes in the number of elements within the business model and the relationship between the elements;3.In different stages of development,the ways in which the non-profit organization's resources are put together and the business model is changed are different.The enlightenment is as follows: When seeking for sustainable development,the non-profit organizations that are in a resource dilemma should choose ways in bricolage according to their actual situation.In the early stages of development,they should focus on their internal organization.In the later stages of development,they can seek to grow from the external environment.
