An Analysis Of The Strike In Garment And Footwear Industry In Cambodia Under The Background Of Political Transformation

After the development in the 199,the garment and footwear industry of Cambodia has gradually become the pillar industry in Cambodia's export economy and play a important role in promoting employment and providing national income.With the development of the industry,there are frequent strikes in the garment and footwear industry of Cambodia in the new century,and labor and capital conflicts have become increasingly prominent.Apart from this,the strike shows a "normalized" trend.Economic strike mixing with political strike have an impact on Cambodia's economic development,social order and political stability on different degree.The strike in the garment and footwear industry has evolved into a massive social collective initiative,steming from the current economic,political and cultural backgrounds.Economically,the basic wage requirements of workers triggers the strike in the garment and footwear industry.Politically,the political party and Trade unions use the strike as a bargaining chip,which boost the development and growth of the strike.Culturally,Cambodia's uncompromising national character and Western civil rights ideology imperceptibly make the strike develop to a more intense direction.The issue of the strike takes place under the background of the political transition in Cambodia.It has the characteristics of the times and the national conditions.Due to the late start of economic development,the young labor system did not match with the existing system of collective bargaining,The strike has also suppressed public opinion,and the open society has also facilitated the circulation of information as a catalyst for workers to initiate collective action.More crucially,the multi-party politics transplanted from the West can not be rooted in the Cambodian political soil,finally to be the fallacy of "electoral supremacy".These realities make the labor system of the garment and footwear industry go into the twisted form that the advanced Western labor economy thought and the Cambodian traditional political,economic and social concepts,hindering the strike to the direction of legalization,and making strike governance in a dilemma.
