Purpose:This study aims to understand the mental health status of the left-behind elderly and explore the relationship between the loneliness and the quality of life,and explore the mediating role of hope and self-efficacy in this relationship so as to improve the quality of the life of the left-behind elderly in rural areas of Guangxi.Objects and methods: Using the method of multistage stratified random sampling on the research,the elderly left behind in rural areas as the research objects.In this study,700 questionnaires were distributed and 681 questionnaires were collected effectively,and effective rate was 97.3%.The contents of the questionnaire are as follows: A survey of the general situation of the elderly left behind;the UCLA Loneliness scale,the World Health Organization quality of life scale,Hope scale and the General Self-efficacy scale were used to measure the loneliness.Multivariate hierarchical regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between the loneliness and the quality of life,and explore the mediating role of hope and self-efficacy in this relationship.Sampling strategy was used to examine the mediating effect of self-efficacy and hope on loneliness and quality of life.Results: This study results were shown that the factors affecting the physiological function of the elderly in rural areas have family liabilities(P < 0.05);the psychological factors affecting the elderly people in rural areas have a cultural level(P < 0.01);the factors affecting the social function are as follows: family liabilities(P < 0.05),sleep disorder(P < 0.05);The factors of environmental satisfaction were whether the family was in debt(P < 0.01)and gender(P < 0.05).Loneliness was negatively related to the quality of life and self-efficacy and hope play mediating role in the relationship between loneliness and quality of life.Conclusion: This study was shown that we could reduce the loneliness of the left behind elderly in rural areas,improve their sense of self-efficacy and hope,and then improve the quality of life of the elderly.There are many factors affecting the quality of life of the elderly.Only by scientific understanding,analysis and intervention on the factors affecting the quality of life of the elderly in rural areas,the joint efforts of the government,the government and the joint efforts of the individual and the family can effectively improve the quality of life of the elderly.
