A Study On The DPP's Mainland Policy Under The Factional Game

The factional politics of Democratic Progressive Party(DPP)and its mainland policy are hot spots in Taiwan study.As a key link of DPP's mainland policy-making,factional politics has a profound impact on its mainland policy.Starting from the political ecology,game process and result analysis,this paper chooses the major events in the development of DPP's mainland policies for analysisOn this basis,drawing lessons from the "government political model" of decision-making research,this paper comprehensively examines the influence of DPP faction politics on its mainland policy through case analysis and comparative analysis,and tries to answer the core question of how DPP faction politics affects its mainland policy.Based on the criteria of DPP's opposition and ruling,this paper divides the DPP's mainland policy into four periods:the DPP's opposition period(1986-2000),the DPP's first ruling period(2000-2008),the DPP's re-opposition period(2008-2016)and the DPP's return to power period(2016-present).From 1986 to 2000,the DPP was in opposition for the first time.During this period,factional politics played a key role in the formulation of DPP's mainland policy.It was a period when the DPP factional politics played a prominent role in its mainland policy formulation.During the first period of the DPP in power from 2000 to 2008,as a result of Chen Shui-bian's taking power,the DPP emerged as a' presidentialized party',which weakened the influence of factional politics on Chen Shui-bian's mainland policy.During the DPP's re-opposition period from 2008 to 2016,the influence of factional politics on the DPP's mainland policy was once again enhanced.The factions launched fierce discussions around the party's public officials'visits to the mainland and the DPP's mainland policy trend,and held nine'China Policy Expansion Meetings'.After DPP came to power again in 2016,Tsai Ing-wen basically dominated the DPP's mainland policy formulation,and the influence of the faction declined again.However,in the process of Tsai Ing-wen's administration,her mainland policy was still restricted by some of the party's forces,especially the fundamentalists.Generally speaking,the influence of factional politics on DPP's mainland policy in the opposition period is greater than that in the ruling period.However,due to the restrictions of subj ective and obj ective conditions,the influence of factions is not the same in the opposition or the ruling period.The faction's recognition of the mainland policy,the size of the faction's^power,the factors of the party chairman and the game mechanism all have an impact on the exertion of the faction's political role.In the future,factional politics will still have a significant impact on the DPP's mainland policy-making,but with the decline of factional politics,the impact of factional politics on the DPP's mainland policy will gradually decrease.
