Central Asia Security And Cooperation Under The Background Of The Belt And Road Initiative

The current security challenges in Central Asia can be divided into two categories:one is long-standing security issues,including geopolitical and political risks,"Three Evil Forces",and economic risk;another one is emerging security challenges,which mainly come from the ecological environment area,cyberspace,and the crisis spillover caused by the deterioration of the situation in Afghanistan.Faced with complex and diverse security challenges,Central Asian countries realize that only through cooperation can they effectively address regional security challenges.Therefore,a number of regional cooperation mechanisms have emerged in Central Asia,such as the CIS Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,which have achieved remarkable achievements.However,the security cooperation in Central Asia is still insufficient.There are contradictions among various cooperation mechanisms,and the lack of attention to emerging security challenges is also a problem that needs to be improved.Central Asia is an important area for building the Belt and Road Initiative,in the context of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative,China and Central Asian countries can jointly promote security and cooperation in Central Asia from the following aspects.First,promote the dissemination and establishment of new security concepts and strengthen the awareness of security cooperation in Central Asia;Second,promote economic cooperation and development,reduce crimes caused by economic reasons,and enhance the stability of Central Asia;Third,strengthen the concept of green development and the security cooperation in the field of ecological environment,and maintain the safety of ecological environment;Fourth,enhance network security awareness and technology,strengthen security cooperation in the field of cyberspace.With the in-depth development of the Belt and Road Initiative,China and Central Asia countries should jointly cope with the security issues in Central Asia and promote peace and development in Central Asia.
