| This paper looks at the refugees’ resettlement and integration process when it comes to Canada and Uganda and what the implications are.It brings to light both positives and negatives implications in four key areas: policy development, partners and stakeholders, supporting and ensuring integration, and the socio-economic implications. These key areas also form the framework and the hypothesis in terms of how Canada and Uganda perform.Canada has greater control of refugees entering into the country than Uganda. Moreover,Uganda relies heavily on foreign governments, businesses and/or non-profit organizations to care for and provide for refugees, whereas,Canada invests over a billion dollars for refugees resettlement and integration. This paper further presents that although there are many challenges and investments to undertake when countries are welcoming refugees;the long-term benefits are greater because refugees contribute to the society and economy. The conclusion highlights the number of refugees throughout the years the two countries have taken in,how they have supported them and continuous effort to do their part when it comes to the global refugee crisis. |
