As an extraordinary feat performed by mankind in transforming nature,the South-to-North Water Diversion Project,operated on the vastest scale and completed with the highest degree of difficulty,is a strategic project of great significance in China's history of water conservancy.Having addressed the urgent issue of severe water shortage in China's northern regions,the project contributes immensely to the security of water supply,promotion of sustainable economic and social development,and improvement of ecological environment along its route.A contemporary project,it will nevertheless benefit succeeding generations to come.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,following five decades of intense verification of its viability,the project was eventually launched into construction in 2002.The first-phase construction of its midline was completed on December 12,2014,turning Chinese people's dream of water diversion across vast geographical regions into reality.The great project nourishes a great spirit,which in turn further advances the great project.This great spirit is known as the spirit of south-to-north water diversion.President Xi Jinping has pointed out: “Spirit is the very soul that ensures the long-term existence of a nation;only by attaining a certain spiritual height can a nation stand firm against the powerful currents of history and forge courageously ahead.” The spirit of south-to-north water diversion is a contemporary Chinese spirit that came into being during the arduous process of the construction of this world-class water conservancy project and the relocation of the numerous immigrants involved.This spirit is epitomized in these words: overall planning by a powerful nation,prioritization of people's interests,innovation and aspiration for perfection,dedication and a keen sense of responsibility.This spirit,along with some other spirits shaped during the process of China's revolution,socialist construction and reform and opening-up,such as the spirit of Jinggang Mountain,the spirit of Long March,the spirit of Jiao Yulu,the spirit of Red Flag Canal,and the spirit of manned spacecraft,is the Chinese spirit that ensures the achievement of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.President Xi Jinping has further observed: “We must carry forward the Chinese spirit in order to materialize the Chinese dream.This means we must value the national spirit with patriotism at its core,and the spirit of the times with reform and innovation at its core.This spirit exerts a tremendous cohesive power as the very foundation of a powerful nation.” While further enriching the connotation of the Chinese spirit,the spirit of south-to-north water diversion epitomizes the national spirit and the spirit of the times,acting as a crucial spiritual driving force that propels our endeavour to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.This spirit,deeply rooted in the long-upheld doctrine of establishing the party for the public and governing the nation for the people,highlights painstaking endeavour and patriotic dedication,and is apparently oriented towards the collective spirit of cooperative sharing.Suffused with lofty aspirations of the Chinese nation,the spirit advocates a correct outlook on the values of life.Moreover,while inheriting and carrying forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture,the spirit embodies the ideal,conviction and aspiration of the contemporary Chinese people.This thesis falls into four main parts.The first part introduces the background,research status,research significance,research methods and innovations of the spirit of the South-to-North Water Diversion.The innovative ideas of this thesis are concentrated in its second and fourth parts.Among them,the second part introduces the formation of the spirit of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project,and taking the practical difficulties that confront the construction of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project as the starting point,creatively proposes the following solutions: adherence to the principle of seeking truth from facts and taking the mass line;adherence
