| The academic community recognized that American public diplomacy gradually matured during the Reagan period.It not only promoted the development of public diplomacy in terms of mechanisms and institutions,but also innovated in form,which was particularly prominent in the public diplomacy activities against Poland.This paper first discusses the background of American public diplomacy in Poland during the Reagan period.After Reagan came to power,he established the foreign strategy of "Containing the Soviet Union".Under this background,public diplomacy gradually became the key of Reagan’s foreign policy.In addition,the rise of the Polish Solidarity has torn open the cracks in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.In order to establish contact with Solidarity and provide direct support,and further realize the strategic objectives of the Reagan Government in Poland,public diplomacy has become one of the most important strategic tools of the Reagan Government’s foreign policy towards Poland.Secondly,starting from different institutions such as the United States Information Agency,the Voice of America,the Radio Free Europe and the National Foundation for Democracy,this paper discusses a series of public diplomacy activities of the Reagan Administration against Poland.Finally,this paper analyses the internal logic of American public diplomacy toward Poland in Reagan’s period from the perspective of necessity,feasibility and effectiveness.Generally speaking,the public diplomacy carried out by the Reagan administration in Poland is undoubtedly a success and a great victory of American public diplomacy. |
