An Analysis Of The Relationship Between China And Panama After The Establishment Of Diplomatic Relations

China has a long history of relations with Panama,and relations between the two countries can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty.At the end of the Qing Dynasty,Panama had established diplomatic relations with China.After the Revolution of 1911,in January 1922,Panama established diplomatic relations with the Republic of China,and the National Government established an legation in Panama.In May 1955,the Taiwan authorities upgraded the "Legation"in Panama to the "Embassy".Since the 1970s,the economic and trade relations between New China and Panama have become increasingly close.In 2013,China surpassed Japan and became the second largest user of the Panama Canal.At the same time,China is also the largest supplier of the Panama Free Trade Zone in Panama.Nearly 10,000 crew members in China hold Panamanian seafarers'certificates.With the increasingly close economic and trade exchanges between China and Panama,China and Panama have officially set up diplomatic relations on the agenda.Panama has twice proposed to establish normal diplomatic relations with China.However,due to the political instability in Panama and the maintenance of peace and stability in cross-strait relations,The normal diplomatic relations between China and Panama have not been realized.Until June 13,2017,China established diplomatic relations with Panama,and China-Panama relations achieved a historic breakthrough.The development of China-Panama relations has taken China-Panama diplomatic relations as a new starting point.In the new era of relations between the two countries,it has also proposed new development visions in political,economic,cultural and other fields.This article takes the great time node of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama,reviewing the tortuous and difficult development process of China-Panama relations,and concluding the cause for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Panama.It comprehensively analyzes the great achievements in the development of China-Panama relations in less than two years after the establishment of diplomatic relations.And reviewing the situation and discussing the domestic and foreign challenges encountered in the development of China-Panama relations at the present stage,that is,the problems of insufficient trade and insufficient cultural exchanges within the two countries and the external factors of the United States.Finally,this paper believes that only by strengthening mutual economic and trade exchanges,balancing the trade gap between the two sides,strengthening cultural exchanges,and promoting dialogue of China-Panama and China-the United States can promote the friendly development of China-Panama relations.
