Dilemmas Of "Abandonment-Entrapment" In Rok-us Alliance

It has been 60 years since ROK-US Alliance has been signed,and it is one of the steadiest alliance in the world.It also acted as an essential role for peaceful development of Korean Peninsula.However,because of the different point of views between two countries and the asymmetry of the alliance,it encounters big and small dilemmas.The point of this paper is to combine the abandonment-entrapment model and the cases of Missile Development of Korea to analyze the dilemmas of ROK-US Alliance.The objects to be studied regarding the theoretical establishment of the abandonment-entrapment theory are the missile policy from Park Chung-hee Administration to Lee Myung-bak Administration.The three ROK-US negotiations have also been studied in-depth in this paper.Chapter 1 of the paper is the introduction and the meaning of the topic selection,examination of advanced researches,and the Study framework and Research methods.Chapter 2 of the paper will discuss further by grafting the concepts of the asymmetry of ROK-US Alliance and the three models of asymmetrical alliance.Chapter 3 of the paper will discuss the threat of North Korea's Missile development,the Missile Technology Control System led by the U.S.and the meaning of Missile Development to South Korea,which are interior and exterior factors that most directly impact Missile Development of South Korea.Chapter 4 and Chapter 5,with the classification the Cold War era(High-Level Alliance Dilemma Period)and the Post-Cold War era(Low Level Alliance Dilemma Period),will discuss the Missile Development Policy of Korea.The Conclusion analyzed the impacts of the Missile Development of Korea on ROK-US Alliance and deepened the understanding of the abandonment-entrapment model.Furthermore,it will extend the understanding of the choices of the weaker allied nations under the asymmetric alliance.Finally,it will supplement the explanation of the traditional asymmetric alliance theory.The major method of this study are: Historical analysis method,Comparison analysis method,and Process-Tracing method.
