The Relationship Between Drug Abstinence Motivation And Relapse Tendency: An Analysis Of The Mediation Role Of Coping Styles

In order to effectively reduce the relapse rate of drug addicts and find a feasible way to reduce the relapse rate,although the predecessors have studied the motivation,coping style and relapse tendency of drug addicts,they have not been discussed as a whole.This study uses coping styles as a intervening variable to reveal the relationship between motivation of drug abstention and relapse tendency and aims to reduce the relapse tendency by altering the motivation of drug abstention and coping styles of the drug addicts under compulsory rehabilitation and to provide theoretical and empirical basis’ s for relevant department of drug control in China.379 drug addicts at the Compulsory Isolation and Drug Treatment Center of Hangzhou City has been studied using the motivation of drug abstention questionnaires,the simplified coping style questionnaire and relapse tendency questionnaires as tools.The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 statistical software and Amos 21.0 statistical software and the conclusions are:1.Different groups of drug addicts under compulsory have different motivations,coping styles,and relapse tendency.(1)There is no significant difference in the motivations,coping styles,and relapse tendency of people between different ages,ages of initial drug use,or marital status.There is no significant difference in the positive coping styles between different genders.There is no significant difference in negative coping styles between different years of usage or professions;(2)The differences in motivation,negative coping styles,and relapse tendency among different genders are significant: females are more motivated and has less negative coping style and and relapse tendency than male;(3)There are significant differences in motivation,positive coping style,and relapse tendency among people with different stage of addictions: the shorter being addicted,the more motivation,the more positive the coping style,and the lower the relapse tendency;(4)There are significant differences in the motivations,positive coping styles,and relapse tendency of the people who are employed(including fixed and non-fixed occupations)or not: people who are employed have more motivation,more positive coping styles and lower relapse tendency than those who are unemployed.2.Motivation is one of the antecedents of coping style and has a significant positive impact on positive coping styles.3.Relapse tendency is one of the outcome variables of motivation for detoxification,and motivation has a significant negative impact on relapse tendency.4.Positive coping styles play a partial mediation role between motivation and relapse tendency.Negative coping styles do not play a partial mediation role between motivation and relapse tendency.
