The Possibility Of Dwelling: A Study On The Daily Life Of Public Rental Housing Residents

Since the reform and opening up,along with the reform of China's economic system and the rapid advancement of urbanization,more and more floating populations have gathered in cities,which has brought huge challenges to the city's housing system.In order to solve the housing problem of urban residents,the state has proposed to vigorously promote the construction of public rental housing and to gather these floating population in the area of public rental housing,which has brought unique spatial effect and humanistic effect.However,this phenomenon has not received widespread attention.The paper adopts a qualitative research method,going deep into the public rental housing community of Chongqing and observing the daily life of residents.Through conducting in-depth interviews with residents and staff in public rental housing,the researcher can collect relevant information to deal with the research questions.This research is mainly divided into three aspects: first of all,under the background of industrialization and urbanization,this paper discusses the dynamic factors of public rental housing space production,and analyzes the role played by the government,enterprises,residents and communities in space production with the usage of Lefebvre's space production theory;secondly,starting from the life course of the public rental housing residents and through the description of their life events,such as living alone,marriage,having children,parents' support,children's education,work change,children's independence,and moving care,the paper analyzes the living conditions of the residents in different family life cycle stages,and summarizes their own time characteristics;finally,starting from the symbols of the daily life of the public rental housing residents,through the analysis of the symbols of clothing,housing,language,decoration and cultural consumption,this research shows their endogenous collective cultural characteristics.Through the analysis of three aspects,we can fully show the space production process of public rental housing,as well as the behavior mode,living state,emotional experience and cultural concept of public rental housing residents,so asto demonstrate the possibility of their dwelling in the city.The results show that as a city's security housing,public rental housing is linked with certain political,economic and cultural resources.In this situation,the public rental housing residents actively reconstruct their own behavior and values,and improve their own living conditions,so as to realize the desire of individuals and families to migrate,settle and even move upwards.However,it is a pity that the spiritual residence in the cultural sense and the spatial residence in the geographical sense cannot be synchronized.The public rental housing residents present a mixture of local and urban characteristics in their daily life,and they have a certain cultural separation from other residents in the city.That is to say,there is still a distance away from the real "dwelling".
