Gao Yihan's Understanding And Comparison Of Chinese And Western Political Systems

Gao Yihan(1885-1968)was born and grew up in the atmosphere of friction and collision between Chinese and Western cultures at the end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China.He not only received traditional Chinese education in his early years,but also went to Japan to receive western education at his own expense,so that he grew up to be a great thinker and academic celebrity who has learned both Chinese and Western cultures and has learned from ancient to modern times.He is one of the important representatives of the new culture movement,whose position in the New Culture Movement period is second only to Chen Duxiu,Li Dazhao and other main advocates of the new culture movement.As a political commentator,Gao Yihan first published his political views in Jiayin monthly journal,which was sponsored by Zhang Shizhao.After that,the editor of New Youth magazine was the editor in the early days of the founding of new youth magazine,who published the most articles except Chen Duxiu.Since it was stipulated that politics could not be discussed when the New Youth magazine was founded,most of his articles published in the New Youth magazine introduced western liberalism and other thoughts.Later,Gao Yihan transferred to Weekly Review magazine,and gradually became an important contributor of Weekly Review magazine.In addition to introducing western academic thoughts,he also expressed his political thoughts for many times in Weekly Review magazine which attracted wide attention of the society.Gao Yihan once served as the editor in chief of Endeavor Weekly magazine.He has expressed his political opinions on the magazine for many times,which is of great academic significance for the study of China's political ecology in the 1920 s.Gao Yihan has published such works as The Evolution of Chinese Imperial History System,The Evolution of Chinese Cabinet System and The History of European Political Thought.In two books,The Evolution of the Chinese Imperial System and The Evolution of the Chinese Cabinet System,and related articles,he inspected the ancient Chinese imperial system,cabinet system and feudal autocracy.In the two books The History of European Political Thought and The Generalization History of European Political Thought,he combed the political thoughts of ancient Greece and Rome in Europe,he combed the political thoughts of various schools in modernEurope and the political system in modern Europe,which is of great reference value for the study of intellectuals' understanding of Western political life and political system in the period of the Republic of China.As the first group of political commentators studying Marxism in modern China,Gao Yihan,together with Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu,played a positive role in promoting the spread of Marxism in China,and affirmed the political system of Soviet Russia in the same period.On the basis of investigating and comparing the political thoughts and systems of China and the west,Gao Yihan explored the political development path of China,and demonstrated the feasible political system in China from all levels,which was the positive expression of his desire to save the nation and survive as a modern intellectual.For example,he hoped to implement elite politics and suggested that the "good people" among intellectuals should organize "good people government" to change the current situation of political corruption;he hoped that China could implement the federal system like the United States,so as to save the country in the separation of warlords and in the crisis of division;he recognized the Soviet state system and the political system of the dictatorship of the proletariat a certain degree of support.But he broke away from the masses to talk about the idea of change,and finally disappeared in the trend of history.Since 1931,Gao Yihan has successively held the posts of supervisor committee member of Nanjing National Government,supervisor of Lianghu,supervisor of Gan Ning Qing,etc.,and gradually faded out of the academic circle and newspaper circle.In recent years,Gao Yihan,as one of the important leaders of the May 4th New Culture Movement and the pioneer of the modern democratic movement,has returned to people's vision.It is of great significance to explore how to promote the modernization of the national governance system and governance ability by examining the western political system and thinking about China's political path.
