The importance of the BRICS stems from the increasing role of the developing countries in the global economy and international politics. The strengthening of ties between Brazil,Russia,India,China, and South Africa is largely a result of global problems and threats and the countries respond to them.Since the first BRICS Summit in 2009,the problem of food security was prioritized on the agenda of the group`s meetings. It originates from such global challenges as population growth, trade disbalances, climate change, and others. The development of ways to joint solutions on food security problems in the BRICS has been transforming from joint statements to several practical decisions. However, since the first statement in 2009,the progress in meeting these challenges remains to be slow.To find out where these trends in BRICS cooperation on food security stem from,I raised the following questions: first, why is there not much progress and still not so many projects on solving food security and agricultural problems in the BRICS group?;second, why are they not as successful at implementing the agenda as in formulating it?.By applying the qualitative method and analyzing the existing literature on food security and the official documentation of the countries on the agriculture,we fin? out the patterns of its development as well as the opportunities and limitations of the food security cooperation of the BRICS group. The earlier findings suggest that the BRICS countries are not homogeneous in both the basic indicators of food security and the way of finding solutions to this problem on a state level.Regarding this feature, this study seeks to find out other limitations of the BRICS cooperation on food security.
