During World War ?,the United States began to attach importance to "military administration" as a national strategy in its diplomatic and security system, and applied it to the practice of early occupation of the Okinawa Islands. This paper, centering on "military administration",tries to sort out the historical process of the military administration of the United States from planning, implementation to establishment, adjustment and transition to the civilian government,to explore the objectives and means of the military administration of the United States,to explore the role and impact of the military administration of the United States Army on the post-war Okinawa society, and to make an evaluation of the historical position of the military administration of the United States in the period of American occupation.Overall, the five years of U.S.military and political rule over Okinawa can be said to be conditional success.Politically, under the rule of the U.S.military and political authorities,Okinawans established an autonomous government and gradually restored social stability;socially and economically, military and political rule transformed Okinawa from a traditional agricultural society to a service-oriented economic society relying mainly on U.S.military facilities;and culturally and educationally, the Okinawa education system of military and political authorities has fostered a large number of more sound, more educated and productive citizens. On the other hand, the military and political rule has limited Okinawa's democratization, and the land problem has led to the tension between the United States and Ryukyu, which has become a bad political legacy left by the military and political era of the United States. In a word, the military and political practice of Okinawa is a manifestation of the "hard power" advocated by the United States.Military and political rule is not only an attempt by the United States to deal with the Okinawa issue after the war,but also one of the sources that will affect the U.S.-Ryukyu relationship in the future. In the process of implementing military and political rule in Okinawa, the attitude, implementation and adjustment of the US military and political policy reflected not only the change of its post-war Okinawa policy, but also the epitome of the adjustment of the US military and political policy towards Japan and the pattern of the two wars.
