Education is not only an important way to promote the internationalization of higher education,but also an important means to attract international high-quality talents.With the continuous advancement of the internationalization of China's higher education,China has become the largest destination for international students in Asia.In recent years,the number of foreign students in Shanghai has been increasing year by year.However,in the process of public policy making,the international students are still marginalized.Via studying the status of international students' urban adaptation,this paper aims to help them adapt to the city at the institutional level,by helping them complete studies successfully,and improving their recognition of the city culture.At the same time,attracting foreign excellent students to Shanghai has potential significance for the construction of Shanghai Science and Technology Creation Center and the gathering of overseas high-level talents.This paper,from the perspective of institutional supply,takes the international students studying in twelve universities in Shanghai during September,2017 to June,2018 as the research object,and collects data by questionnaires,interviews and data collection,from four dimensions of economic,cultural,living and psychological,to study on the status of their urban adaptation in Shanghai city,with the analysis and discussion,trying to figure out the cause affecting the adaptation process,then it puts forward some policy suggestions to promote the urban adaptation.Investigation and analysis results show that international students in the universities in Shanghai are in a "diversity" status.They retained their own cultural characteristics and are also good to accept and adapt to the way of life in the city.However,in real cases,a half-closed way of living,and the lack of communication with Chinese students,and other factors such as public system for international students is not applicable,limited the students to fit into the city.Therefore,there is still much room to improve the city adaption.This study is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,significance of topic selection and research content framework;The second chapter involves defining the main concepts,and research review.The research literature and research results on urban adaption and integration at home and abroad,so as to provide theoretical construction for this study;In the third chapter,on the basis of summarizing the research,combining with the research purpose and the particularity of the object of study,this paper take reasonable urban adaption measuring index system,based on the characteristic of the students in groups and refactor the purpose of this research system supply,and with the help of the software to analyze the statistical results of sampling questionnaire,and combined with the interview content,from the four dimensions of building Shanghai college students into the current situation of the comprehensive description,explore international students into the society in the process of the plight of existence;The fourth chapter,from the perspective of institutional supply,compared the policies of Shanghai municipal government for international students,with the present situation,to discover if there is insufficient or imbalance on the institutional and policy supply;In the fifth chapter,on the basis of above analysis,suggestions and countermeasures are put forward,to improve the urban adaption of international students in the city,and to provide theoretical and practical experience for the internationalized development of Shanghai and the international integration.
