China and Vietnam are socialist states. In the Cold War,they both participated in Proletarian Revolution, assisting each other and together fighting against the US with highly mutual trust. So there were an alliance between China and Vietnam though without covenants and it was an special revolutionary alliance. After 1969,the Sino-Soviet relations splitting and the Sino-US rapprochement, the Sino-Vietnamese relation were influenced and gradually deteriorated. The outbreak of the Sino-Vietnamese War in February 1979 declaimed the breakdown of the alliance. This article tries to explain why Sino-Vietnamese alliance dissolved by applying the Alliance Theories, and according to the World Revolution Theories, there were the particularity and generality in the development of Sino-Vietnamese relation.Since it was a defensive alliance, the shared interests were not stale, which is called the fragility. When the original threat has changed, the alliance opts to dissolve. In the late1960 s,the relative strength of the US,which was the original threat of Sino-Vietnamese alliance, has weakened,so China and Vietnam made differences decisions to reply. With the change of the international situation, more divergences occurred in the relations to USSR,assistance issues and some longstanding problems, which revised the two members' beliefs about intentions of each other. To this article, after Vietnam achieved unification, the particularity of this alliance was challenged, and the inherent fragility of alliance exposed. Both China and Vietnam began to place the national interests above ideological one, which caused the breakdown of Sino-Vietnamese alliance.
