Syria is an important stage for France to return to the rank of the world's leading powers, playing its role as a major power after the War II.After the Syrian crisis broke out in 2011,France actively intervened in the Syrian issue. This paper summarizes the Syrian policies of the Sarkozy government and the Hollande government since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis,it focuses on analysing the Macron government's policy towards Syria.Different from the tough attitude taken by the Sarkozy government and the Hollande government on the Syrian issue, the Macron government's policy towards Syria no longer takes the toppling of the Bashar regime as the priority goal, but puts the fight against terrorism in Syria at the top of the solution of the Syrian issue.France attaches importance to advancing the Syrian political process. While punishing the behavior that who crossed the "red line",France also provided humanitarian aid and actively pushed for negotiations among all parties in Syria. The major factors influencing the Macron government's Syrian policy are: the game of the U.S.and Russia in Syria;divisions within the EU;the refugee crisis and the threat of terrorism;the need to safeguard France's economic benefits in Syria and Macron's own style of governing.Although the Macron government actively intervened in the Syrian issue,it is difficult for France to play a major role in Syria because of the mismatch between its own strength and its strategic goals.
