A Preliminary Study On The Academic History Of The Ethnologist Professor Gu Bao(1941-1983)

Gu Bao was a famous ethnologist/sociologist in China,.He made outstanding contributions to the development of ethnology and sociology in northwest China.He has been writing throughout his life,and make use of his professional knowledge and scholarships to make recommendations for the national development.He is the prototype of ethnologists.However,there are so few studies about him in the academic world.This is pretty inconsistent with his outstanding contributions.The article analyzes and studies Gu Bao's academic thoughts by sorting out his academic experience and life experience from 1941 to 1983 and introducing his writings.From 1941 to 1944,Gu Bao worked in the Kuige led by Fei Xiaotong where he published including the local administration of the town of related articles.This is Gu Bao 's introduction to ethnology.Gu bao left yunnan and returned to Lanzhou in September 1944.Then he taught ethnology/sociology courses at Gansu College,the predecessor of Lanzhou University.At the same time,the research on Gannan Tibetan area and Gansu Han rural socioeconomic survey were conducted.During these years,Gu Bao internalized the ethnological knowledge he had learned in the "queequeg" and began to form his own academic style.By the time he entered Xinjiang with the People's Liberation Army in 1949 and did a lot of work there.His investigations and researches are all related to the construction of the country.Besides writing professional papers,he was keen on the compilation of popular science articles on related knowledge of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang,making outstanding contributions to the construction of Xinjiang.This paper is the initial achievement of Gu Bao's academic history research.Based on the current research,the following conclusions are drawn : The experience of queequerry influenced his whole life.The academic experience of queequerry made him an important figure in the construction of ethnology in northwest China and a leader in the distribution of ethnology in China.Gu bao is one of the early practitioners of applied anthropology in China.His investigation gives the government a practical basis for its decision-making in Xinjiang.
