Research On The Application Of Geographic Profiling In Serial Cases Investigation

Series case is always a difficult problem in the daily work of public security organs in China,because it not only requires a lot of police resources,but also causes social panic.At the end of the 20 th century,a kind of auxiliary means of criminal investigation appeared,which was named as geographic profiling.By calculating and analyzing the spatial relation of the involved places in a series of cases,we can judge the range of the suspect's possible location.In recent years,with the consummating of "Intelligent policing " strategy,the geographic profiling is facing new opportunities.This paper aims at deeply studying the application method of geographic profiling in the investigation of serial cases in China,clarifying its application predicament and putting forward the targeted countermeasures.The application of geographic profiling in the investigation of serial cases in China has been studied in the following five aspects.The first part of the research is about background and its significance.Through a review of the literature comparison of domestic and foreign research on geographic profiling differences,research methods and content are described.The second part introduces the concept and characteristics of the series of cases,defines the basic concept of geographic profiling and the scope of the series of cases that is applicable to geographic profiling.In this part,the researcher systematically discussed the supporting theory of geographic profiling and expounds the conditions for applying geographic profiling.The third part demonstrates the feasibility of applying geographic profiling to the investigation of serial cases in China from the following three aspects: The scientific nature of geographic profiling,the demand of improving the investigation efficiency of serial cases in China,and the increasingly mature construction of " Intelligent policing ".In the fourth part,firstly,the applicability of the Criminal Geographic Targeting Model in China and the setting of the model parameters are empirically studied based on the data of a series of cases in L city of Y province,then the results of the study are compared with those of previous studies.The average error distance between the predicted location of the perpetrator and the actual location of the perpetrator is 0.629 km.And the average error percentage is 10.36%,which validates the applicability of Criminal Geographic Targeting Model in our country.Finally,based on the results of the model,the investigation ideas of a series of cases are analyzed.The investigation contents of the cases are ranked according to the result of the suspect's landing place predicted by the model.Then,the types of landing places are analyzed.Next,according to the foothold analysis of the suspect,we can employ different means of investigation to lock the suspect.In the fifth part,the study investigated the problems found in the empirical study of the series of theft cases in L city of Y province,and actual public security work.Finally,the author puts forward some opinions and suggestions on how to improve the application of geographic profiling in the investigation of serial cases in China based on data,technology and system guarantee.
