Chinese Language Teaching can be divided into two sections——the domestic and the overseas.With the irresistible trend of the globalization of Chinese Teaching,the overseas Chinese teaching is gaining more and more attention.Its vigorous development indicates that a single universal teaching method can no longer meet the demand of overseas teaching.However,according to the current situation,Overseas Chinese Teaching has encountered three main adaptation issues:the teaching materials cannot fulfill local educational requirement;Chinese teachers are unaccustomed to the local educational environment;the teaching methods are unable to fully fit into the characteristics and habits of the students.Hence,the localization of Chinese Teaching is the objective requirement and inevitable result of Overseas Chinese Teaching.New Zealand is a "new land" of Overseas Chinese Teaching with late blossom,short history and weak foundation.In addition,there are huge differences in national circumstances,educational conditions and learning situation between New Zealand and China.In recent years,the Overseas Chinese Teaching in South Island of New Zealand has been gradually developing.Before 2010,Chinese language lessons could only be found in junior high schools in big cities.After the CIUC's setup,Chinese Teaching in Primary Schools has been rapidly developed,of which the good effects are enormous.The student quantity and teaching quality has greatly increased,so the Primary Schools have become a key part in CIUC's promotion.From September 2013 to September 2014,the writer was in CIUC and conducted Chinese teaching practice,teaching in three primary schools in Christchurch and a one-semester Chinese Interest Class for teenagers.During this year,the writer also audited in the classes of other Chinese teachers in the primary schools and attended three teaching seminars in South Island.As a result,the writer has gained a deep understanding of both features and inadequacy of Chinese teaching in Primary Schools of South Island,New Zealand.Therefore,this paper aims to provide relevant solutions through the research in the current teaching situation in the South Island.The writer adopts questionnaires in her research.Based on the questionnaire Hanban Overseas Chinese Teachers Volunteer Training Situation,the writer designed a new questionnaire for primary school Chinese teachers(refer to appendix 1).The participants are primary school Chinese teachers,including teachers of Chinese nationality,local Australian teachers,Hanban overseas volunteers and Chinese teachers of some language training institutions.The educational organization includes public schools,private schools,language training institutions,etc.The writer figured out the specific teaching issues from the current situation,which is presented by results of the previous questionnaires combined with the synthesis of the writer's teaching practice.This paper consists of three parts.Chapter one is the introduction.In this chapter,the writer gives an introduction of the research background information,target,meaning,scope,object,theoretical basis and so on;chapter two focuses on the current situations and problems of primary school Chinese teaching in South Island of New Zealand.Based on the New Zealand foreign language teaching idea,syllabus,the developmental history of Chinese language,coupled with the feedback of the questionnaires of primary school Chinese teachers and combined with her teaching experiences,the writer introduces the present conditions and issues of primary school Chinese teaching from the perspectives of faculties,teaching methods,and textbook utilization.Chapter three provides the localized countermeasures for the tutorial issues of primary school teaching.Under the principles of realizing the localization of Chinese Teaching,the chapter aims at offering corresponding solutions to the problems discussed in chapter two and giving reference for the future Chinese teachers in this area.As the result of the research shown in this paper,the primary schools of South Island is faced with teaching problems,such as the lack of teaching resources,great faculty mobility,little experience,inappropriate classroom instructions and management,unsuitability of the teaching approach and other problems.They are also facing the problem of complex student diversity,low purposiveness of Chinese learning,poor linking between primary and middle school curriculum.These problems increase the difficulty of Chinese teaching.Therefore,the writer considers"localization" as the solution to a series of problems in Chinese Teaching in South Island and then puts forward some countermeasures:1.Nourish some local teachers and the sent teachers who are adapted to life of New Zealand.On-line training model is proposed against the current issues in training local teachers in New Zealand;also,regularly hold some teaching communication seminar and go deep into the local classes in accordance with training of sent teachers.2.Realize the localization of teaching approach.The assigned teachers should constantly learn from local teachers,strengthening communication on teaching experience with each other and using modern educational technology in traditional classes.3.Realize the localization of teaching materials and contents.Put forward the localization of textbook compilation according to four aspects:textbook capacity,word notes,explanation comparison,and class topics.Point out that under the situation that local textbooks cannot be presented in short time,teachers can choose the localized teaching content,inject some localized topics in a scientific way and realize a combination of Chinese and local culture.
