The new curriculum reform requires that teachers should center on students,enhancing students,comprehensive quality,guiding students to conduct inquiry learning,which requires teachers to improve their teaching method,enrich their teaching approach,arouse students’interest in learning geography,guide students to devote themselves to the study actively instead of passive learning.The graph is the language of geography.The graphic teaching method is the method that gives students a sign or guidance with graph or picture.The graphic teaching method is helpful to arouse students’ interest in learning geography,to increase students’ learning efficiency,to deepen students’ understanding of knowledge,to help them to break through the difficult and important point,to set up geographic knowledge system and improve their knowledge structure.Therefore,the graphic teaching method is very popular among geography teacher.The graphic teaching method meets the requirement of new curriculum standard,and the characteristics of geography discipline and the geographical question types of college entrance examination.On the basis of new curriculum concept and the new geography curriculum standard,through reading a large number of documents,summarizing existing research results in academic circles,and integrating author’s teaching practice,the author researched the application status of graphic teaching method in teaching physical geography of high school with the questionnaire method,document analysis method and interviewing some teachers,and also put forward corresponding strategies.The aim is to provide a reference for other geography teacher to improve their teaching method and to help them to conduct their teaching research.The theme of the paper is divided in to five parts:The first part:introduction.The introduction was concluded three aspects,including background of the subject,the domestic and overseas research actuality and research program.The second part:the concept definition and the basic theory of The graphic teaching method.The concept of graphic teaching method is defined in this paper.The theoretical foundation includes humanistic theory and constructivism theory.The third part:The current situation of applying the graphic teaching method in teaching physical geography of high school.The questionnaire method and document analysis method are applied in this part to research the application status of graphic teaching method in teaching physical geography of high school.The design of questionnaire and the process of survey are introduced specifically.The results of the survey show that the graphic teaching method is accepted by teachers and students,and is used broadly and frequently.The graphical representation of geography is attached much importance in some different knowledge classification.But students lack learning initiative and ability in handling graphical representation.The fourth part:the system construction of the graphic teaching method in teaching physical geography of high school.From the mental process and features of individual students,the geography knowledge can be divided into three types:declarative geography knowledge,procedural geography knowledge and strategic geography knowledge.According to the features of geography,the graphical representation of geography can be divided into 5 categories:three-dimensional graph;dynamic graph;the cause-and-effect graph;comparative graph;cyber graph.On the basis of the categories of geographical knowledge,humanistic theory and constructivism theory,and from the teaching angle of"student-centered",the author proposed specific teaching strategies with the main use of graphical representation of geography and other graphical representation as supplement.The fifth part:the case of applying the graphic teaching method in teaching physical geography of high school.The author chooses thermodynamic circulation from physical geography and conducts the teaching design with the teaching strategy presented in part four.
