The sabbatical leave system was formally established at Harvard University in the 1880 s.The superiority of the academic leave system and the strong promotion of university development have led to the rapid extension of the system to other universities in the United States and even around the world.It has been proved to have played an important role in alleviating college teachers' job burnout,improving the quality of university teaching and improving the professional development of university teachers in the past half century from the time of implementation of the sabbatical leave system.The four members of the AAU(that is,Association of American Universities),which refer to Harvard University,Columbia University,Stanford University and the University of California,represent not only the top level of American research universities,but also the direction of world higher education.The sabbatical leave system of these four universities has a long history,and the implementation of value is superior to other universities,and what's more,it has a larger reference on establish and implement academic leave system.The sabbatical leave gives teachers an opportunity to self-regulation and self-improvement.After the completion of the vacation,it can re-stimulate the teacher's personal potential work enthusiasm,and update the fresh vitality of teachers.Thus it has a great contribution not on teachers but on universities themselves.This study uses the historical method,the literature method and the comparative method to compare and analyze the specific contents of three periods of the sabbatical leave system of the four original members of AAU,and discusses the American university sabbatical leave system values and lacks.With a view to these four members of the sabbatical leave system research and analysis for our university to establish a sound academic leave system to make reference.The experience of the four original members of AAU's sabbatical leave system tells us that,whether from the perspective of Achievement Motivation Theory or Humanistic Management Theory,and whether the development of teachers themselves or the sustainable development of universities,it is feasible and necessary for a university system to establish and effectively implement sabbatical leave system.This thesis consists of five parts.The first part is the background analysis of the establishment of sabbatical leave system in American universities.The second part is the background of the research on the establishment of sabbatical leave system in the United States,and specifically introduce the sabbatical leave of the four original members of AAU.The third part is the comparison and analysis of the relevant contents of three periods of sabbatical leave system of these four members,including the comparison of the relevant contents of the pre-sabbatical leave,on-sabbatical leave and post-sabbatical leave,and the comparative analysis shows that the sabbatical leave of each university exists similarities and differences,that is,each university will implement sabbatical leave according to their reality of the development characteristic.The fourth part tells us about how to establish sabbatical leave based on real domestic situation,such as the attitude on sabbatical leave system,the protection and distribution of funds and the establishment of sabbatical leave system with the characteristics of the university itself.The fifth part is the conclusion.
