Educational Landscape In Hannah Arendt's Thought And Its Contemporary Significance

The arrival of the "modernity" means that the glory of the classic honour no longer illuminates the present,the eternal holiness collapses,the universal value is smashed,and the existence of human beings and the continuation of the world is completely historical.Every thought must be born in response to the demands of the times.Hannah Arendt is the philosophy who made her own voice at the time of the loss of the modern world.In her view,the general categorical refusal will only make the solitude of the mob abandon the ability to understand themselves and endow the world with meaning.The dilemma of modem people is not only in the field of politics and philosophy,more infiltration into the field of education,leading to the common sense of human suddenly disappear.Arendt points out that this root is the crux of the American education crisis:the isolation of the children's world makes the students become a lonely individual,the disintegration of the authority of teachers make it no longer become a messenger of wisdom,the excessive freedom of teaching dispels the light of knowledge and truth.The close connection between man and the world is torn and even broken between past and future,and mankind becomes an orphan who does not depend on,and the world becomes an abandoned relic.In the face of the hopeless reality,Arendt struggled and sought,pointed to the modern education theory,criticized three assumptions behind the crisis which caused education trauma.Based on this,the whole picture of Arendt's educational thoughts gradually rise to the surface.Then she points out that the multiplication of civilization and the existence of the world can only be realized through education,which comes from the dual nature of education——natality and conservatism of education.Natality means that a steady stream of new life are coming,they are fragile and full of tension,carring both hope and destruction;conservatism means to treasure and protect,protect the young and innocent children from violation,protect the existing world of immortality,so that the plural of human can establish a relationship with each other to form a human community and keep the world up to date with continuation.At this point,Arendt's educational thought is complete and three-dimensional,and form its unique educational landscape.Arendt,s educational landscape constructs from the philosophical perspective,whichnot only shows the concern of the philosopher to the educational practice,but also demonstrates the creation of her educational theory.Her educational landscape is based on the criticism of the three hypotheses,and it is supported by the concept of the dual nature of educatior,thus forming the main contents of the three parts:the concept of children,teachers and teaching.In Arendt's view,children should accept the protection from family,avoid being exposed to the public,save life energy in"dark" private domain,in order to avoid suffering from infection in the public domain;this protection will eventually lead to public life,children will grow up and go into the public domain,assume public responsibility and participate in public affairs;and this long process of growth is inseparable from the adult(parents and teachers,especially teachers)guidance,as newcomers,only through adult's help can they be slowly introduced to the world.In the view of teachers,Arendt attaches great importance to the role of teachers in the connection between children and the existence of the world.She believes that teachers are representative of the world,they must be responsible for the continuation of the community,and this task is implied in such a fact:the maintenance of the world cannot be separated from the addition of new people,and the growth of new people cannot do without the teachers's teaching.Teachers should always be the love of wisdom,the "neighbor" of the truth,the "deep sea pearl diver",who gathers knowledge in the depth of the gloom and seek for the truth in the distant dim;they are the connection between past and future,they cultivate the human civilization in the world,so that the glory of traditional culture can be rooted in deep soul;as adult,they have to take public responsibility to maintain the harmony of the public sphere,but also to cultivate children's public awareness.Teachers tirelessly travel between the cave and the light,to illuminate children's mind.Arendt believes that the original intention of teaching is knowledge transfer,"teaching" and "learning" influence each other.Teaching is always for this disjointed world,this world is made of mortals,and the persistence of the world needs renewal of the mortals,through teaching their love of the world can be "planted"in students' heart,and make them inherit the desire of home;through the inheritance and development of knowledge,teaching makes the "old world" and "new world" effectively bridge the gap between past and future.As Arendt said,education is the point at which we decide whether we love the world enough to assume responsibility for it and by the same token save it from that ruin which;and is where we decide whether we love our children enough not to expel them from our world,to let them undertake something new9and to prepare in advance for the task of renewing a common world.
